How the bogus caller button works

Bogus callers and distraction burglaries target vulnerable older people in particular and can have a dramatic effect on someone's wellbeing and sense of security.

If you live alone and get an unexpected knock at the door, it can make you anxious, particularly if it’s the evening. You may not be comfortable opening the door to a stranger and certainly don’t want to let them into your home without making sure it's safe to do so.

When the bogus caller button is pressed, our response centre is automatically called and will listen in on the conversation with the visitor. The trained team will assess the situation, and using the two-way speaker they will offer advice and help to determine whether it is an unwanted caller.

If our response centre feel you are particularly at risk, they will contact your keyholders, for example a family member or a neighbour, or call the Police on your behalf.

The battery in the bogus caller button should last between 3 and 5 years. It performs a daily self-test and has a low battery reporting function so there is no need to worry about the battery running out .
